Nigeria National League (NNL) campaigners Supreme Court FC says it will recruit 16 new players to beef up the team as the 2016/17 league season draws near.
The club’s General Manager, Tolulope Oguntimehin, who made the disclosure in a statement on Wednesday in Lagos, said that 14 players among the present squad would be retained.
“Apart from measures taken to beef up the squad in the coming season, the management has expressed its readiness to adopt various means to ensure swift operation amid current economic realities.
“Plans are also on to beef up the technical crew of the team led by Joachim Osuji to keep the qualification to the premier league pursuit alive.
“The Chief Registrar and Chairman of the club, Gambo Saleh, want the best in spite of the harsh economic situation of the country.”
Ogntimehin also said that the club, fondly called Apex Boys, missed promotion ticket in the last season with only a few points standing in between them and the table toppers.
“We hope to strengthen the technical crew and reach the target of playing in the premier league.
“I believe the opportunity provided by the Supreme Court will help in curbing youths’ restiveness and provide jobs in line with Federal Government’s plan.
“Already, screening has begun and new talents discovered have been exposed to several friendly matches ahead of pre-season tournament scheduled for Ijebu Ode, Ogun, towards the end of January.
“In Ijebu Ode, the Apex Boys are expected to lock horns with the likes of Premier League sides, Shooting Stars, Sunshine Stars and fellow NNL team Crown FC among others.” (NAN)
