The management of Niger Tornadoes Football Club of Minna has officially unveiled Coach Abubakar Bala as the Technical Adviser of the Minna-based club.
Hon. Adamu Aliyu, Chairman of the club, who is also the Principal Private Secretary to the Governor of Niger State, said the choice of Coach Bala was not a coincidence but for his belief that the younger generations should be given opportunity to grow, particularly for coach being a son of the soil.
“It is not coincidence that we bring back Coach Bala, but because it is part of my policy to groom younger ones from the state. Apart from Coach Ladan Bosso we don’t have anyone from the state who have made mark in football Coaching, if people like Coach Ladan are leaving the stage who takes after them?” he said.
Hon. Adamu Aliyu added that part of what gave Coach Bala an edge over others who applied for the job was his discipline, credibility and potentials, saying that Coach Bala has been an ambassador of the state nationally and internationally.
He said that Niger Tornadoes is a household name in Nigerian football circles and as such the task of returning it to Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) is paramount to the management because that was where the team rightly belongs.
The Club Chairman also declared that Coach Bala has returned home to stay for good and urged all stakeholders of the club to embrace him and give him their maximum support and cooperation, promising that the management will give him all the support he need to succeed in taking the club to the next level.
Similarly, the Permanent Secretary of the State Ministry of Sports Development, Dr. Mohammed Gana, expressed satisfaction with the return of Coach Bala, recalling that he told the coach while leaving the team two seasons ago that he was going on sabbatical leave.
He also stated that the task ahead is to return the team to NPFL because that was where the team belongs, urging the Technical Adviser to work as a team with his subordinates.
In his goodwill message, the Vice Chairman of Niger State Football Association, Alh. Yabagi Baba, who represented the State FA Chairman, Comrade Ahmed Yusuf Fresh, said the state FA had enjoyed good working relationship with the present management of the club and promised that they will do everything possible to ensure that the club regained its lost glory.
In his response, Coach Abubakar Bala Mohammed said that the task ahead is very challenging because the team will be looking forward to returning to NPFL and at the same time engaged in a continental assignment.
He said the state and the country as a whole would expect quality representation from the club in the continental engagement, and appealed for support, cooperation and patients from all stakeholders.
The coach who said Soccer loving Nigerlites have already felt the impact of his return added that they met the structure of the team in bad shape and as such they will need time to put things in order, warning that it will not be business as usual.
Highlights of the event were the signing of contractual documents between the coach and the management of the club, as well as presentation of a Peugeot 406 Prestige as official car to the coach.
