Courtney Dike got a hat-trick as Nigeria stepped up their 2019 Women’s World Cup preparations with a commanding 6-1 triumph over UMF Selfoss on Friday.
After securing three wins in six previous games, the Super Falcons were able to record a big win to boost their morale ahead of France 2019.
The African queens started on the back foot as Alfred Johansson’s team gained the lead through Reimus Magda in the 31st minute.
Uchenna Kanu brought Thomas Dennerby’s team into the contest as she struck the equaliser three minutes to the half time break at Pinatar Arena.
In the second half, substitute Courtney Dike handed the African side the lead in the 57th minute before Ini Umotong extended five minutes later.
Umotong claimed her double and Nigeria’s fourth in the game while Dike scored twice to complete her treble before the 75th minute of the game.
The win was the biggest for 59-year-old Dennerby since he took over the Africans in January 2018 and the team’s fourth in seven games this year.
After the win in Murcia, Nigeria will continue their preparations with a high-profile meeting with France-bound Canada at the same venue on Monday. (Goal)
