Manchester United are back to winning ways with two back-to-back wins in the English Premier League under new manager and former player Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. On Boxing Day United hammered visiting Huddersfield 3-1 in Solskjaer’s first home game as manager of the Red Devils. 

Former United striker Solskjaer was appointed last week after the sacking of Jose Mourinho and the win over Huddersfield followed up the 5-1 thrashing of Cardiff in Wales last week. 

Man United’s turn around in fortunes and attacking verve has coincided with their own star player Paul Pogba’s improved form.  

Pogba capped up a brilliant performance with two goals against Huddersfield, the second being a fine strike from outside the box. 

The French World Cup-winning midfielder had a fractured relationship with axed manager Jose Mourinho and their quarrel led to the firing of Mourinho. 

Pogba was alleged to have celebrated Mourinho’s sack openly before his teammates after being frozen out of the first team picture by the Portuguese tactician. 

After posting a suggestive image on Instagram on which he wrote “caption this”, Pogba was reported have screamed in excitement on hearing the news of Mourinho’s departure: “He f***ed with the wrong baller”.

This alleged behavior has drawn the ire of a grassroots coach in Nigeria, Chinedu Ukoha of Abuja-based Great Rising Stars FC, who went on a rant against Pogba over his treatment of a coach and drew comparisons between Pogba’s alleged behaviour and those of some grassroots players he has known, including some who once played for him. 

Ukoha said: “To say the gospel truth, even some of my own players have done the same thing to me. Players I coached for like five years would be rejoicing when things are not going well with me. 

“One of my players even went as far as fighting me just because he lost a final match in which I substituted him because of his bad reaction inside the pitch. Some players left my team because they claimed to be too big for the club, when they have not even got anywhere in football. I stood by them when they didn’t have hope. I’m sorry for all these players. I hope they make it, though, but they will live to regret bad behaviour over the struggles of their coach. It’s a reality; take it or leave it. 

“I’m really not happy the way some players react over issues of a coach receiving a sack letter. This is totally wrong. No one knows tomorrow. I don’t care to know what happened but the way players react sometimes against coaches when we take our decisions. 

“Mourinho as a coach is the world’s best coach. Indeed, he has his own problems just as players have their own problems.”
