A brilliant display from Danny Welbeck saw Arsenal come from behind to eventually beat relegation-threatened
Southampton 3-2 in a gripping encounter at the Emirates Stadium.
Coming off the back of good wins against Stoke and CSKA Moscow in the Premier League and Europa League respectively, the Gunners went a goal down when Shane Long got on the end of Cedric Soares’ cross, nipping in ahead of Shkodran Mustafi.
On 28 minutes, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang equalised when he poked in Welbeck’s neat flick before the England striker turned the game on its head when he cut the ball inside and found the net via a Maya Yoshida deflection.
However, Arsene Wenger’s men were pegged back when Charlie Austin tapped the ball in just seconds after coming on as a substitute on 73 minutes.
But Welbeck got the winner with a powerful downward header ten minutes before the end to bag the win for Arsenal, in a game which saw late dismissals for Jack Stephens and Mohamed Elneny.
Danny Welbeck will make all the headlines from this game. He did not give the Southampton defenders any time whatsoever and had a hand in all of Arsenal’s goals.
The striker superbly laid Aubameyang off to get the Gunners back in the game and Welbeck’s brace has ultimately led to his side taking all three points.
At 2-2, he missed an open goal but he didn’t let that knock his confidence as he scored the winner soon afterwards.
