Akwa United remain top despite 1-1 Draw At FC Ifeanyiubah

By Daily Sports on February 1, 2018

FC Ifeanyiubah and Akwa United served off a thrilling 1-1 draw in Nnewi Ozubulu in a match that had both sides share dominance in each half on Wednesday.

Cyril Olisema shot Akwa United into the lead with a neat jab in the 12th minute.

The goal laid the foundation for what was a dominant first half by the visitors whose measured control of FC Ifeanyiubah’s aggression ensured the home side didn’t register a shot on target in the opening half.

The Anambra Warriors’ work was made all the harder by the injury enforced substitution of top marksman, Godwin Obaje in the 20th minute.

However, for much of Akwa United’s control of possesion, they failed to build on their lead and paid for it three minutes into the second half when Patrick Ikeokwu beat the offside trap to level scores.

Akwa United withdrew a bit further back and allowed FC Ifeanyiubah more of the ball, but they were still dangerous on the counter, two of which saw Cyril Olisema wriggled his way through two markers before shooting straight at Drissa Bamba and Victor Mbaoma turning swiftly before also shooting straight at a well positioned Bamba.

Akwa United had more chances but FC Ifeanyiubah’s energetic, if not smooth response, especially in the second half, gave the match an entertaining balance so much that a 1-1 draw was fair on both sides.
