Pep Guardiorla may have spent a massive amount of money on players’ acquisition for Manchester City this season in order to ensure the smashing success his first team are currently enjoying in the Premier League. But he hasn’t abandoned the youth policy that gave him recognition in the first place when he led a group of young players in Barcelona’s famous La Masia academy to play brilliant football and got some of the stars thrust into La Liga action when he was appointed first team coach of Barca. Sergio Busquets and Andres Iniesta are two players who benefited particularly in Guardiola’s trust in youth and today they have become Barca legends on the back of multiple, almost uncountable sporting success.
On Tuesday evening in the quarter-final stage of the English Football League Cup, otherwise known as the Carabao Cup, Guardiola resorted to a number of youth players in Manchester City to prosecute the tie away against 2015/16 champions of the English premier League Leicester City.
The young lads gave a good account of themselves as they survived a controversial late penalty equaliser by Leicester, with City’s goalkeeper Claudio Bravo proving match hero in the penalty shootout by saving Ryhad Mahrez’ kick.
Among the six youngsters that turned out for City on Tuesday were two young Nigerians, Tosin Adarabioyo (20) and Tom Dele Bashing (16).
While defender Tosin featured for the entirety of the match, midfielder Bashiru played the whole of extra time.
Adarabioyo joined the youth system at Manchester City aged five. He made his U18 debut for the club aged 14 and was captaining the U18s aged 16. On February 21, 2016, Adarabioyo made his first-team debut in an FA Cup match against Chelsea. He made his Champions League debut on August 24, 2016, as a substitute in a 1–0 win over Steaua București in a Champions League play-off round match.
Bashiru is described as a powerhouse of a midfielder, capable of driving his team forward from midfield due to his direct style of play.
Similar to the other U16s who moved up to the U18s of Manchester City last summer, Dele –
Bashiru made a real impression during his first season in the U18 Premier League, scoring six times in 15 games.
