Football legend, Diego Maradona has disclosed that the decision to award Cristiano Ronaldo with The Best FIFA award ahead of Lionel Messi ‘hurt’ his ‘soul’.
The former Argentine international was in attendance of the awards show in London on Monday and spoke with his compatriot Messi, who lost out on the top award for a second successive year to the Real Madrid and Portugal star.
“To award The Best to Ronaldo and for Messi not be able to receive it hurt my soul,” Maradona explained to TyC Sports.
“My meeting with Messi was great, we spoke together and the same levels of love and affection were there as they always are. “It is my belief he can continue for many more years,” he said.
