Sylvanus Okpala has reportedly been been handed a temporary contract with Enugu Rangers.
SCORENigeria reported that Okpala, a former Nigeria international and winner of the prestigeous African Cup of Nations as player in 1980 and as coach in 2013, will steer the former Nigerian champions between October through November this year pending the appointment of a new management board for the club.
A former Super Eagles assistant coach under late Stephen Keshi during the AFCON triumph in South Africa in 2013, Okpalla was in charge before the disbandment of the crew soon after the conclusion of the 2016/2017 NPFL season by the Christian Chukwu led management.
Rangers hierarchy headed by Chukwu was equally relieved of their roles soon after by the Enugu State Government who set up a 13-member probe panel headed by Prof Caleb Agu to get to the root of crisis that held the team downfall, almost sending the foremost club on relegation months after breaking their 32-year-old trophy drought.
“We have started training ahead of next season,” Scorenigeria.com.ng was told by an official at the Government House Enugu.
“Sylvanus Okpala is in charge after government asked him to take temporary charge for just two months.”
Okpala will be assisted by Benedict Ugwu, a former Rangers defender who was in charge of Rangers Youth team before he was dropped by the Ozor Paul Chibuzor-led management.
