Algeria Football Association (FAF) have fired Spanish coach, Lucas Alcaraz even as it set November 10, to host Nigeria in a final 2018 World Cup qualifier in Constantine, 400 kilometres east of the capital city Algiers.
Prior to his sack, Alcaraz was in his sixth month in the job.
His contract was to have lasted till 2019.
An official told AFP that the executive committee of the Football Association of Algeria (FAF) unanimously voted for the dismissal of Alcaraz.
The 51-year-old Alcaraz, who has twice handled La Liga club Granada CF, was in charge of Algeria’s last three World Cup qualifiers, which they all lost.
Last month, Algeria lost home and away to Zambia and last weekend, the North Africans fell 2-0 in Cameroon.
He was the fourth coach appointed by Algeria since the departure of Vahid Halilhodzic, who guided the team to the Round of 16 at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
Similarly, the country’s FA fixed the kick-off time for Eagles clash for 8.30 local time.
FAF said the date was chosen so as to allow them arrange a friendly after this qualifier within the FIFA-friendly window.
Nigeria have already qualified for next year’s World Cup in Russia as winners of Group B.
And no matter the outcome of this match, “whipping boys” Algeria will finish bottom of the group as they have only managed a single point in five matches.
