The player whose goals are followed by the death of celebrities

By Daily Sports on August 22, 2017

Last November I wrote a piece about superstition and how I find the subject fascinating in life. I was responding to my senior colleague Victor Enyinanya’s article in Daily Sports where he argued that the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo didn’t seem to be a lucky ground for the senior national team of Nigeria, the Super Eagles, owing to their struggles to win international matches there.

In that piece I admitted how superstitious I am about some things (like my dread for the number 13) as I considered the psychological impact on our national team’s performance by a superstitious mindset.

A few days ago I came across another superstition-related story. This has to do with Arsenal and Wales striker Aaron Ramsey and how many of his goals for club have been immediately followed by the death of world renowned figures.

Now conspiracy theorists fear the “Aaron Ramsey Curse” has struck AGAIN.

Bruce Forsyth, famous actor and TV presenter, is the latest celebrity to pass away shortly after the Welshman netted for Arsenal against Leicester City in the first match of the 2017/2018 English Premiership on August 12. Arsenal won the game 4-3.

The UK Sun newspaper writes that the legendary TV presenter was admitted to hospital earlier this year with a severe chest infection.

Bruce’s family released a statement in which they expressed their gratitude to “the many people who have sent cards and letters to Bruce wishing him well over his long illness and know that they will share in part, the great, great loss they feel.” They asked for privacy so they would grieve “at this most difficult time.”

Forysth now joins a list of celebrities who have passed away within days of the Welshman scoring, which dates back to 2009.

The so-called curse began in 2009 when Ramsey scored against Portsmouth on August 22, only for Senator Ted Kennedy to die three days later.
