Games are fast running out for bottom-placed Remo Stars and relegation-threatened Rivers United as they look to preserve their status in the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL).
On Sunday, the ‘Pride of Rivers’ face Remo Stars knowing they must win to enhance their chances of remaining amongst the elite of Nigerian football.
Remo Stars, viewed by the bookmakers as sure bets for the drop, lost their last home fixture against MFM FC on July 30 and Rivers United will be looking to toe the path of the high-flying ‘Olukoya Boys.’
Technical manager of Rivers United, Stanley Eguma will be looking to mastermind his first away success of the season and one of the individuals he will be relying on to supply the goals on Sunday, Godbless Asamoah, says relegation for the darlings of Port Harcourt will be likened to heresy.
“All hopes are not lost but we will get it right in the next five matches,” Asamoah told Rivers United media.“
The players have met and we have resolved that we will fight with our lives to see this club escape from relegation.
“By the grace of God, we will come out of the relegation zone after the next five matches.”
Words they say, are cheap and the boys from Port Harcourt must be ready to battle for all 90 minutes with great intensity to achieve set goals.
While the Rivers United stars have dropped the gauntlet, they will be facing one of the most aesthetically-accomplished sides in the top flight on Sunday.
On their day, Remo Stars can hurt anyone and comfortably put them to the sword. The Sky Blue Stars from Sagamu are dominated by youngsters and pacy full backs.
Centre half, Onuoha Chulwujekwe could however be suspect against physically-demanding opposition with Remo Stars head coach, Fatai Osho favouring a 4-3-3 formation.
