Kennedy Boboye has played down talk of a meltdown within the camp of Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) leaders Plateau United.
Boboye, the Plateau United head coach, has stunned many this season, taking the unfancied club to improbable heights and within striking distance of a first-ever league success.
The wheels of the Jos-based club, however, seem to be coming off with a previous five-point lead over the chasing pack reduced to just two following a 1-0 defeat, in heart-breaking fashion, to El-Kanemi Warriors in Maiduguri on Sunday.
“The loss was heart-breaking because we conceded in the fifth minute of additional time in the second half,” Boboye told supersport.com.“
Fans of the home side had already started leaving the stadium, thinking we (United) had got a point there in Maiduguri.
“To my greatest surprise, my boys lost concentration in the dying minutes and they scored,” he lamented.“
Our lead may have been reduced but the players, whilst expressing sadness, are not nervous,” he added.
Plateau United have amassed 48 points from 27 matches this season.
