Rivers United have promised to reward its players with one million naira cash if they defeat their Club Africain of Tunisia opponent in a crucial CAF Confederation Cup Group A match on Sunday in Port Harcourt and they will also earn additional 100,000 Naira for each goal they score on the day.
Rivers United are third in a tight Group A on goals difference after all four teams are tied on six points each.
The Nigerian flag bearers will need at least a 2-0 win on Sunday to push up to second place with one round of matches to the end of the group stage of the annual tournament.
The Rivers State Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Felix Obuah, made the huge cash promises to Rivers United in a press statement.
The PDP Chairman therefore urged the players to go all out for victory to do the government and people of Rivers State and indeed all Nigerians proud in the Sunday encounter, adding that the monetary incentives promised the players were made to boost their confidence against their opponents.
Obuah reminded the players that as the only Nigerian club remaining in African club competitions, Rivers people and Nigerians at large deserve nothing but outright win to progress and increase their chances of winning the trophy.
Obuah, who is also the owner of Go-Round FC, a Nigeria National League club, charged fans to turn out in their thousands and cheer Rivers United to victory, adding that the presence of supporters at the stadium would bring out the best in the players.
He urged the players to ensure a resounding victory against their opponents as a way to reciprocate the efforts of Governor Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, who is doing his best to encourage the youths and boosting sports development in the state.
