Bafana Bafana winger Keagan Dolly has encouraged South African footballers to ply their trade abroad.
The 24-year-old joined French Ligue 1 side Montpellier in January for a fee in the region of $2 million, following a successful spell with Mamelodi Sundowns, who he helped to the 2016 CAF Champions League title.
Dolly has quickly found his feet in France and has encouraged fellow South Africans to move out of their comfort zone and follow in the footsteps of the likes of Steven Pienaar, Thulani Serero, Kamohelo Mokotjo and Benni McCarthy.
"You need to be prepared for challenges and I think with South Africa we tend to be complacent, enjoy living at home where the spotlight is on us, so we don't want to leave the comfort zone," Dolly told BBC Sport.
"If you want to develop and test yourself among the best footballers in world football, then I would encourage more South African players to go abroad,"
"I felt like I wanted to challenge myself, embrace new culture, new football and face something completely different.
Dolly continued: "You look at Steven Pienaar [former Ajax Amsterdam, Borussia Dortmund, Everton and Tottenham Hotspur midfielder] who has spent over 15 years in Europe; you can only draw inspiration from him.
"I feel like I am representing my country in France so I just try to do my best so that I can open doors for more South African players," he concluded.
