After weeks of intensive training and adequate preparations, Sporting Dreams FC despite being huge underdogs in her debut season in the FCT Aiteo Cup, took the whole state by storm.
After a first round win via penalty shoot-out over Citizens FA who paraded former World Cup winner Juwon Oshaniwa, Sporting Dreams FC continued their march forward with a mesmerising 5-1 whitewash and battering of NNL professional side NAF FC in the Round of 16 ,with talismanic striker Friday Omoregie bagging a hat-trick.
Just when the state thought they had seen enough, Sporting Dreams FC led by coach Nnamdi Onuigbo, Nigeria Men's Olympic team Coach (Rio 2016) and 2016 Edo State FA Cup Champion with Ine Stars FC, still had fire in their belly. They dismantled the NYSC National team 2-1 to qualify for the semi-final of the FCT Aiteo Cup.
At this point it was no more news that a youthful exciting team full of quality players including the likes of Dickson Igiebor, Imiefan Francis, Friday Omoregie amongst others, were here to dominate.
The Semi Final would see Sporting Dreams eventually loose gallantly 1-2 to another NNL Professional side EFCC FC who scored with the last kick of the game.
Despite the loss, there were surely positives to take.
Technical Advisor /Head Coach of Sporting Dreams FC, Nnamdi Onuigbo, told Daily Sports: "Though we wanted to make history by reaching the finals and thus qualifying to represent the FCT at the national finals, we can hold our heads high at the level of quality performance my players put in every game day. No one expected this from a youthful side like this, but our quality shone through. We will definitely be fielding calls from a lot of top agents and managers who have indicated interest in working with our numerous talented players. We have made our mark. Our fans can rest assured that We will continue to keep the bar extremely high."
Two Sporting Dreams players, Samson Onogboria and Kelvin Agho were recently part of a Team Nigeria side that represented the country at an international tournament hosted by Bayern Munich in Germany. The lads were picked by current Bayern assistant coach Klaus Susan taller during their scouting trip to Nigeria recently.
Sporting Dreams also have talented players in football exchange programs overseas including Kenneth Otabor who is in one of Japan's biggest football academies.
Also in the fold of the team is a young lion-hearted defender, Oluwatimileyin Adeniyi, who is widely considered in the Nigerian grassroots football circles as the best under-17 central defender in the country today.
