Christian Madu says that Enugu Rangers were unlucky in their defeat to Abia Warriors in the 2016/17 Nigeria Professional Football League opener on Sunday.
Gpals from Emeka Isaac and Godwin Zaki were all the visitors needed to tame the reigning Nigeria champions at the Nnamdi Azikwe Stadium.
And the midfielder claims they have learnt their lessons and would gun for victory in their next fixture against Nasarawa United on Wednesday - and feels the side has the dept of quality to retain their crown.
“After the game, I was totally disappointed because it wasn’t what we expected, but sometimes, football is like that, it is not what you predict but what you get at the end of the game,” Madu told Goal.
“We have learnt our lessons and I believe we will keep on pushing because this was the way we started last season that nobody gave us a chance after losing our first game, and the same thing is repeating itself this season, but I believe we will overcome that because it is part of football.
“We just have to put that behind and focus on our game that is coming up tomorrow.
“I will say everything depends on luck, I believe luck was not on our side because we did everything to make sure we win the game, but after the game, the feeling at the dressing was bad and everyone was somber but we are ready for the next fixture against Nasarawa United.
“We are prepared for the game and we are hoping that by the grace of God we will come out with a positive result.
“Everything is possible, with God; we can retain the title this season.”(goal.com)
