Thirteen events have been listed as tentative events for the 2017 Professional Golfers’ Association Tour of Nigeria.
In a list made available to newsmen, the PGA Tournament Coordinator, Mr Jide Bolaji, said the association is very hopeful of a better season than the previous year where players ranking were computed on six ranking events.
“We are hoping to confirm all of them but as a body, we have set tentative dates for events we believe will make up this season for us” he said.
Six of the events listed are entirely new on the calendar while the remaining five are older events.
Topping the list of new events are three events said to be expected from the stable of PGA’s new marketing Partner BJ Promotion. They have three events billed for February, June and October respectively.
Another particular feature that the new partner is bringing to for is the return of a PGA event to MicCom Golf Club in Osun State, after a three year hiatus.
Golf on the Plateau is another curious addition to the calendar which may further be premised on the wings of the Plateau State Governor’s (Rt. Hon. Simon Lalong) love for the game and the plans to leverage on the game for Tourism revival in the state. It is listed for March/April on PGA template.
Another interesting addition is the much hyped Road To Mongomo tournament which doubles as the qualifier for the annual 3E Actuaries Open in Equatorial Guinea. Top finished at the April event will tee-off later at the bigger event in December which may flaunt as much as 250, 000 winning purse for pros.
The last of the new events is the Bauchi Open tentatively scheduled for May.
