By Daily Sports on December 8, 2016

Rangers defeated Rivers United 2-0 in the second game of the 2016 Super 4 at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium in Enugu Wednesday night.

The Nigeria league champions are now top of the pre-season tournament after Wikki Tourists beat FC IfeanyiUbah 2-1 in the opening match earlier Wednesday.

On Friday, Wikki will battle Rangers, while Rivers United take on IfeanyiUbah.

There were no goals in the first half even after both Rangers and Rivers United carved out some inviting chances in front of goal.

Chisom Egbuchulam fired Rangers ahead in the 64th minute from inside the box with the help of Godwin Aguda.

He doubled Rangers advantage in the 74th minute, when he smashed past goalkeeper Sunday Rotimi with a blaster from the left flank.

Rivers United failed to pull a goal from the penalty spot in 77th minute after Markson Ojobo’s effort was held by Rangers Ghanaian goalkeeper Nana Bonsu.

Rangers were denied a third goal in the 81st minute, when Chiemaka Madu’s shot from inside the box crashed against the post. (mtnfootball.com)
