Enyimba head coach, Gbenga Ogunbote, is expecting a tough contest when his team go head to head with Remo Stars in the Gold Cup pre-season tournament on Sunday.
The two-time African champions began their outing in the pre-season tournament with a 0-0 draw against Lobi Stars on Friday and Ogunbote acknowledged that playing against Remo Stars, who have just earned promotion to play in the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) will represent a good test for his side.
Ogunbote made it clear that they will not underrate Remo Stars when they meet at the Dipo Dina Stadium in Ijebu-Ode.
“That (game against Remo Stars) is going to be an interesting match; playing against a team that just got promoted, their blood will be very fresh, no doubt. We are going to do our best and make sure complacency does not set in for our boys.”
He also took time to review their 0-0 outing against Lobi Stars.
The former 3SC trainer then chipped in that the Enyimba team are still work in progress and that the pre-season tournament offers him the chance to build before the start of the season.
“It was my first match as coach of Enyimba. It wasn’t a bad match but we still lack a few things especially in the attack, our finishing was poor. We need to continue to work on the team,” he said.
“Enyimba for now is a team in the making. We are building a new team. The players who played were a mixture of new players and some of the old players. But we thank the organisers and sponsors of the Gold Cup because it will help us identify weaknesses as this is a grade-A competition,” he said.
Also on Sunday, FC Ebedei will go up against NPFL side, MFM FC while Crown FC square up against Yobo FC. (supersport.com)
