Gara Gombe lambasts Dikko, says evading arrest ‘not solution to your problem’

A former Bauchi FA Chairman, Alhaji Shuaib Gara-Gombe, has urged the Chairman of the League Management Company (LMC), Mallam Shehu Dikko, to stop evading arrest as that will not solve his problems with the court.

Gombe, a radical football administrator, said Dikko can only run but cannot hide because there is a valid warrant of arrest issued by the court to commit him to prison for contempt.

He pointed out that Dikko has been evading arrest since the warrant was issued for his arrest and the secretary of the LMC, Salisu Abubakar but they chose to go into hiding.

Gombe explained that the only option they have is to appear before the judge or the court that issued the warrant of arrest and convince the honourable court why they should not be committed to prison as there is no other court that can help their matter as it is.

Gombe stated this in a telephone interview with Daily Sports on Tuesday despite saying that he was not aware of what transpired at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport Abuja, between the Police and Shehu Dikko on his return from Zambia.

“Well I didn’t know what happened at the Airport except now that you are telling me but all the same, there is valid warrant of arrest issued by the court to commit Shehu Dikko and Salisu Abubakar to prison for contempt,” Gombe said.

“Ever since the warrant of arrest was issued by the court for their arrest both men have been hiding. They have been evading arrest but one thing they fail to realise is that they can only run but cannot hide because one day the long arm of the law will certainly catch up with them.

“Again they should also realise that there is no court that can help them in this matter except the same honourable court. Therefore, it is better that they made themselves available for the law to take its cause. This is because they have no option of appeal in this matter.

“It is either they appear before the judge and convince him why they should not be committed to prison, that is the only way out but I doubt the possibility, having consistently disobeyed the court,” Gombe explained.

Speaking further, Gombe said that prominent people in this country have gone to jail and even outside the country some people including former presidents have gone to jail and wondered why Dikko’s own would be different.

“Having said I am yet to come to terms with the reason Dikko and Abubakar decided to evade arrest. What is so special about being the Chairman and Secretary of the League Management Company that you cannot go to jail or subject yourself to the laws of the land? I still wonder why Dikko’s case is different when MDs of multinational corporations, very important personalities including former Presidents and heads of government go to jail. I really do not understand,” Gombe said.

He, however, totally disagreed with the method the Police adopted to arrest him by waylaying him at the Airport which could have resulted to loss of innocent live of important Nigerians including the Super Eagles players.

It is recalled that the Super Eagles players narrowly escape death at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in the early hours of Monday when the Police wanted to affect the arrest of Shehu Dikko but the arrest was foiled.

“However, I totally disagreed with the method adopted by the Police to carry out his arrest because if not by the grace of God, many important Nigerians and none Nigerians would have lost their lives because they wanted to arrest Dikko.

“I believe that there is more civilised ways that his arrest ought to have been carried out without resulting to putting other people’s lives in danger,” Gombe explained.

Meanwhile, Dikko has reacted to his foiled arrest by saying that the Police attempt to effect his arrest at the Airport has portrayed the country in a bad light. He said the country’s image has been battered by that singular act at the Airport by the Police as people from different countries who were at the Airport at the time of the incident would go home with bad impression of the country.
