Real Madrid coach Zinedine Zidane has said James Rodriguez has recovered from a calf muscle problem and is available for Tuesday’s Champions League game at home to Legia Warsaw.
Colombia international Rodriguez travelled to South America during the international break but was unable to play in the World Cup qualifiers against Uruguay and Paraguay.
But Zidane told his prematch news conference: “He feels good, he is better now.
“Today was his first full training session back. He has no more issues and is physically recovered. He stayed at the end taking free kicks. So he is fine now.”
Madrid have taken four points from their first two group games, a 2-1 win at home to Sporting Lisbon and a 2-2 draw at Borussia Dortmund.
They now face back-to-back games against Polish champions Legia, who have no points and no goals so far.
Zidane said he would not underestimate them and stressed: “We cannot think this will be easy, that we will score loads of goals.
“The important thing for us is we have two important games to get points now. We must do that, as the other teams can drop points in the other games. We must start well and make the maximum effort so there are no surprises.”
Madrid ended a run of four consecutive draws in all competitions by hammering Real Betis 6-1 in La Liga at the weekend.
“When we do our work well, we can achieve things,” Zidane said. “After that, a coach can only be happy. The players played phenomenally. Now we have another game and we must see it as a new game and not keep thinking about the 6-1.”
He added that Isco’s two goals at Betis had not really changed his situation as a squad player.
“Isco is another important player for us,” he said. “You [the media] focus on him.
“He is working hard, the same as always. He knows where he is, how difficult it is to play all the time. I am happy with his goals, his performance, what he did. I like him as a player.” (NAN)
