The Technical Director of Enugu Rangers and their former captain and coach, Christian Chukwu, says the Flying Antelope will not take any chances against visiting El-Kanemi Warriors of Maiduguri in the final game of the 2015/16 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) season.
According to the former national team captain and coach, after waiting for so long to once again be at touching distance of winning the league, the Enugu state Government financed club will not be deceived by believing that it is already Uhuru.
According to him, in the game of football it is not over until it is over that is the reason they are not going to sleep until the final whistle on Sunday. He explained that inasmuch as they have every reason to thank God for what he has enabled them achieve so far, it will be a costly mistake to think it is all over when in the actual sense, it is not so.
Chukwu stated this in a telephone chat with Daily Sports. He said that the Flying Antelopes are not taking things for granted as they are determined to ensure that every loophole is ploughed so that the celebration would be total.
“I would like to state that so far so good. We are grateful to God for what he has done for us so far. We are not going to be deceived by what the situation is at the moment,” Chukwu began.
He added: “This is the game of football. It is not over until it is over. Therefore, we are not going to take chances until the final whistle on Sunday. It is after the final whistle on Sunday and it is confirmed that we have won that we can kick start celebration.
“Celebrating at this stage is very dangerous. It is true that we are hopeful that we would emerge victorious on Sunday but we have to wait till then for us to start the long overdue league shield celebration.
“We are aware that most of our fans and supporter across are eager to start celebrating but I advise that we should tarry for the final 90 minutes of the season to know what happens but we start celebrating.”
Speaking further, Chukwu, who is popularly known and called Chairman, said: “With the avalanche of calls we are getting from fans and supporters, it shows the type of love and passion people have for Rangers. You would not believe the number of calls that we are receiving from across the country and beyond because of this. That is why we have to do everything possible to ensure that we do not falter.
“My happiness is that the players are ready to ensure that they give more than their 100 per cent to enable us realize this common goal of breaking what seems to be jinx after 32 years. I thank everybody who have identified with us and I want to assure them that we will do everything within our powers to ensure that we do not disappoint them. And I believe that God we certainly grant us the grace to realise this goal,” Chukwu prayed.
