Undefeated Nigerian lightweight Taiwo “Esepo” Agbaje has fired a stern warning at rival Tosin “Sojar Boy” Osaigbovo ahead of their clash for the vacant WBA Africa Lightweight title on April 5 at the National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos, insisting he will expose his opponent as an ordinary fighter on the night.

The 10-round contest, promoted by De Lad’s Boxing and sanctioned by the Nigeria Boxing Board of Control, brings together two of Nigeria’s most exciting unbeaten fighters, with Agbaje carrying a record of 18 wins, no losses and 13 knockouts into the bout against Osaigbovo’s 12 wins, no losses and eight knockouts.

Agbaje, whose nickname was earned on the streets long before professional boxing came calling, was blunt in his assessment of his opponent.

“I just want to hit him, and if he thinks he is a fighter, I will box him to the core, and people will know I am the best boxer. I do not see anything special about Sojar Boy, he is just a boxer,” he said.

Osaigbovo, however, is equally unbothered by the threat, responding with supreme confidence of his own.

“I don’t have too much to say, but victory is sure for me. I am winning this fight. I am not boasting, it is just so certain for me. When they say something is certain, it is 1,000 per cent sure for me,” he said.

Agbaje explained the origins of the nickname that has become synonymous with his destructive style in the ring.

“Right from when I was young, I used to win by knockouts, and that’s when they started hailing me on the streets as Esepo. Nobody can stop me, nobody can take my punches and survive,” he said.

The confidence is backed by an impressive body of work. Agbaje won the WBF Intercontinental featherweight title at GOtv Boxing Night 27, where he also claimed the N1.5m Mojisola Ogunsanya Memorial Trophy as the event’s best boxer — an honour he has now claimed four times, a distinction that places him among the most decorated fighters in the competition’s history.

Osaigbovo’s place in the fight was earned through sheer boldness. Months ago, the fighter called out Agbaje on social media, posting his picture alongside other top Nigerian names and declaring, “Every single fight and step in the ring is a statement for me. It’s war. I prepare for everything they bring, and this is no different. I belong there and deserve these unification fights.”

Fans warned him pointedly against the call-out, and he now has his chance to silence the doubters.

NBBofC President Rafiu Oladipo described the matchup as a showcase of Nigeria’s growing depth in the lightweight division.

“This is exactly the kind of fight Nigerian boxing deserves. Two unbeaten fighters, both hungry and talented, are going after a continental title on home soil. We are proud to sanction this bout, and we expect a spectacular night of boxing,” he said.

With a combined record of 30 wins and 21 knockouts between them, and neither man having tasted defeat, something has to give on April 5 in Lagos.
