The Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) have announced that the FIFA 2018 World Cup qualifier between the Chipolopolo of Zambia and the Super Eagles of Nigeria will now take place on October 9, 2016.
Nigeria were to play Zambia in Ndola on October 3 but FAZ haven’t endorsed the date and will look to insert a friendly game in between the dates to prepare for the game against Nigeria.
No confirmation has been ascertained yet by the Confederation of African Football but a decision is to be made on the date in the coming days.
Zambia is the only team in a group that has Nigeria, Algeria and Cameroun that have never qualified for the Fifa World Cup.
The Chipolopolo’s most famous international football outing till date was the heroics of the team to the 1988 Seoul Olympics where Zambia defeated Italy 4-0.
The last time the two teams met was at the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations in South Africa with the game ending in a 1-1 draw. (Supersport)
