Rohr begins Nigeria reign

 Gernot Rohr took charge of his first training as Nigeria coach ahead of Saturday’s 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Tanzania.

The team had a light workout at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium football pitch overseen by the technical crew including assistant coaches Everson Ferreira, Jean-Luc Royer and Nabil Trabelsi.

However, 20 of 23 players were available to the coach on Tuesday evening during the team’s first training.

Chelsea’s John Obi Mikel, Leicester City’s Ahmed Musa, Watford’s Odion Ighalo and Manchester City’s Kelechi Iheanacho made the session.

Others were Ogenyi Onazi, Brown Ideye, Emmanuel Daniel, Ikechukwu Ezenwa,  Musa Muhammed, Chidozie Awaziem, Abdullahi Shehu, Jamiu Alimi, Leon Balogun, William Troost-Ekong, Elderson Echiejile, Wilfred Ndidi , Nosa Igiebor and Victor Osimhen.

The team will have their second training on Wednesday morning.

Moses Simon and Kingsley Madu are expected on Wednesday same day as the Tanzania national team with the match officials expected on Thursday.
