Finidi wary of difficult Barau test

Rivers United technical manager Finidi George says his side must be prepared for another stern examination when they host Barau FC in a rescheduled Nigeria Premier Football League matchday 25 fixture on Wednesday, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.
The Port Harcourt club return to the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium after a 1-1 draw away to Enyimba, a result that maintained their position in the title race but highlighted the fine margins at the top of the table.
Rivers United, who are fourth with 43 points from 23 matches and have games in hand due to continental commitments, know victory could significantly strengthen their push for the title as the season enters a decisive phase.
Finidi acknowledged the scale of the challenge posed by the visitors, who arrive unbeaten in seven league matches.
“Every game is difficult, but it’s going to be different from the Enyimba match,” he told the club’s media.
“We are expecting a tough game because of where Barau FC find themselves, but at the same time we want to win and keep pushing for the title.”
Barau, based in Kano, sit 13th on the table with 34 points and have steadily moved away from relegation danger during their recent run. They played out a goalless draw with Warri Wolves last weekend to extend their unbeaten streak.
Head coach Eugene Agagbe said his side are determined to continue their momentum in Port Harcourt.
“It’s not easy to go seven matches unbeaten in the NPFL,” he told the club’s media channel.
“Our focus has now shifted to Rivers United because we are taking it one match at a time.”
With Rivers United chasing the title and Barau aiming to prolong their resurgence, Wednesday’s encounter is expected to be closely contested under the Port Harcourt lights.
