Fresh from winning the bronze medal in the men's football event of the Rio 2016 Olympics, John Mikel Obi has set his sights on qualifying for the FIFA 2018 World Cup Russia with Nigeria.
Nigeria's U-23 side Dream Team VI won bronze in Brazil with a 3-2 victory over Honduras Obi hopes he can lead the Super Eagles to Russia.
“Nigeria is a massive country and a footballing country as well, so where we are now in terms of football is not where we want to be,” Mikel said.
“Let’s hope this [the bronze medal] can motivate the national team.
"Now we have the World Cup qualifiers coming up, we have to be ready for that.
"We have to make sure we prepare well and qualify for the World Cup.”
