When the maiden edition of the PENAFORT/PFC All Stars football tournament kick-starts on Saturday, players drawn from 12 All Stars football clubs in Lagos will show-case their skills in an event which promises to be explosive.
In a press conference which served as an avenue for an enlightenment initiative for the tournament, organisers maintained that they're leaving no stone unturned to stage a tournament full of fireworks.
The competition which wil be played at the Post Service Stadium, Ojo, Lagos, will be made up of outfield players from 40 years and above. Goalkeepers will be given an exception as participating teams will be allowed to field goal tenders of all ages.
President of Post Service All Stars Football Club, High Chief Simeon Emelife, emphasized on the philosophy of the club which centres on grassroots sports development and youth empowerment. He made it clear that his club has also been in the forefront of touching the lives of retired football players. He remarked that since the tournament coincided with the 25th anniversary of the formation of the elite club, they're poised to give it their best shot. "PFC All Stars Football Club have been involved in youth empowerment and sports development over the years. We're top-notch when it comes to bringing together budding sports stars, and giving them a sense of belonging. We're using this opportunity to extend our hand of fellowship to the youth in Ojo and Alimosho axis to come to Post Service Football Club and key into the youth empowerment initiative that we've put in place," said Chief Emelife.
The LOC Chairman, Chief Chigozie Nwafor, reiterated the commitment of his team to give participating teams a fascinating competition. He said that the tournament comes with some mouth-watering incentives which include 3 million naira for the cup winners, 2 million naira for the runners-up, 1 million naira for the third place winners, a trophy for the highest goal scorer, a trophy for the MVP as well as other tantalizing prices.
The tournament will last for one month and will involve match officials from the Badagry Football Association.
