The Governor of Bayelsa State Henry Seriake Dickson, has declared that the State Government will continue to support the Nigeria Wrestling Federation in its quest to get the needed result as the nation’s wrestlers prepare for 12th All African Games in Morocco and 2019 World Cup Championship in Kazakhstan.

The Governor made the pledge during the closing ceremony of the 3rd Governor Dickson Wrestling Classics in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State.

He highlighted the achievements of the Federation under the leadership of Hon Dr Daniel Igali as impressive and described Bayelsa State as the headquarters of wrestling in Nigeria and Africa.

He explained that the Governor Dickson Wrestling Classics would continue after the “expiration of his second term in February next year.

This championship will continue after I leave office in February and I have got friends that will support me for the championship,” Dickson said.

While commending the participating teams and wrestlers for putting up brilliant displays, he thanked the organisers of the competition the NWF for their consistency and commitment to revive the sports in the state.

The Bayelsa State number one citizen added that the underlining philosophy of the tournament is to encourage wrestlers as well as discover talents as a means fostering togetherness.

He directed the Ministry of Sports Development to source and recruit sportsmen and women for employment yearly, disclosing that the first 100 will be employed in a month’s time.

The Governor also ordered that the new Wrestling Gym under construction at the Samson Siasia Stadium should be ready before he leaves office.
