Serie A champions Napoli have insisted that Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen will only leave the club for the quoted fee of €75m despite the release clause’s expiry on Tuesday, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.
With the expiry of the release clause which has scared many suitors away, Napoli could decide to lower or increase Osimhen’s price tag, but they have chosen to retain the €75m price.
Osimhen has been destined to leave Napoli since last summer after falling out with the club’s hierarchy, but the move has stalled even after the intent of Galatasaray to sign him on a permanent deal after enjoying his services on loan last season.
Both clubs have been negotiating the deal since last week and Napoli have turned down different offers from the Turkish club over their failure to provide bank guarantees to complete their payment on the striker.
Latest reports in Italy say Galatasaray have agreed to provide Napoli with a letter of credit to ensure that they will be paid in full for the impending sale of Osimhen, but the player will still go for €75m.
The reports also say it may still take another few days for the deal to be completed.
“While the two parties are moving ever closer to closing a deal, it could still take a few more days due to the bureaucratic processes involved,” Football Italia stated.
Though Galatasaray have agreed to pay the full €75m, there have been continuous discussions over the payment terms, largely in relation to the weight of the instalments.
Napoli would like an up-front fee close to the €50m mark and for the remaining €25m to be paid by the end of 2026 at the latest.
According to Football Italia, Napoli could eventually settle for a slightly reduced initial fee, as long as the rest of the €75m price tag is paid within a year.
The two clubs were in contact again on Wednesday to discuss the deal, and Galatasaray have since informed Napoli that they are now able to provide a letter of credit from the bank, which will ensure that the Partenopei are paid in full for Osimhen’s services.
For the second summer in a row, Osimhen has been seeking a permanent move away from Napoli. After seeing a deal collapse on deadline day last summer, the Nigeria international ended up on loan with Galatasaray and is now pushing to return to Istanbul on a permanent basis.
During his loan spell in Turkey, the 26-year-old led Galatasaray to a domestic double – the Super Lig and Turkish Cup – scoring 37 goals plus eight assists in 41 games across all competitions.
The player is loved in Turkey and his lingering transfer has seen one of Gala fans go overboard by threatening Napoli’s vice president.
