At least 100 players are expected to compete for honours at the inaugural GolfGrace Alumni Golf Tournament scheduled for the Sadiq Abubakar Golf Club, Shasha, Lagos on May 10.
The organiser of the event, Agboola Kolawole, said the competition was majorly for players who passed through his golf classes.
“It’s about the players I trained, the people who started their golf journeys on this course and under my platform. Some of the players I trained have been playing competitions everywhere but what’s important is for you to be able to compete among your mates. This brought up the idea, that among the new players we have, we should organise a tournament for them, so that they can compete among themselves, from there we can get those that have actually improved after their training.
“That will also help others who didn’t do well to know that they need to do more because these are their mates that they competed against. It will encourage them to improve. That’s the reason for the event,” Kolawole said.
He added that the organisers were fully prepared to host a memorable tourney, which he hoped to turn to an annual event.
“Before embarking on a tournament of this nature, you would have projected your mind on certain areas that will make it a success, which we’ve done.
“At the moment we have set a goal, and we are achieving it, hopefully, it’s going to be one of its kind at Shasha. The reason we are constrained to just 100 players is because we have only nine holes on our course, we should have had about 200 players. Others can play but as guests. We hope to have it on an annual basis, that’s our plan.”
