I won’t let Pillars down – Ogunmodede

By Daily Sports Nigeria on July 13, 2026

New Kano Pillars coach Daniel Ogunmodede has pledged to justify the confidence reposed in him following his appointment by the four-time Nigeria Premier Football League champions, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.

Ogunmoded was unveiled by the club during the weekend, signing a two-year deal with the Kano club.

Reacting to the overwhelming reception from the club’s supporters, the former Remo Stars coach expressed gratitude to the Kano faithful, promising to repay their trust with success.

“Thank you to Kano people for the trust and belief. I have received several messages and the love is massive. I promise not to let us down.”

Ogunmodede was recently appointed to lead the Sai Masu Gida into the 2026/27 NPFL season after replacing Muhammad Babaganaru.

The 46-year-old arrives in Kano on the back of mixed fortunes of spells with Remo Stars, guiding them to their maiden NPFL title in the 2024/25 season before their relegation in the 2025/26 season.

He is also expected to continue in his role as assistant coach of the Super Eagles, having worked with Franco-Malian coach Eric Chelle.

His appointment is part of Kano Pillars’ restructuring efforts following a disappointing 2025/26 campaign in which the former champions finished 15th and narrowly escaped relegation.

The experienced tactician will now be tasked with restoring the club to its traditional status as one of Nigeria’s leading sides, with preparations for the new season already underway.
