The Local Organising Committee of the maiden National Intermediate Games has unveiled the official logo and mascot of the event, marking another milestone in preparations for the youth sports festival scheduled to hold in Lagos from October 1 to 15, The PUNCH reports.

Chairman of the LOC and Deputy Chief of Staff to the Lagos State Governor, Sam Egube, led the unveiling alongside the committee’s co-chairmen, Chairman of the Lagos State Sports Commission, Lekan Fatodu, and Commissioner for Youth and Social Development, Mobolaji Ogunlende. Also present was the Director General of the National Sports Commission, Bukola Olopade, as well as members of the Main Organising Committee and the LOC.

The Games logo incorporates key elements representing the diversity of Lagos and the vibrancy of the competition. Its features include the Eyo cap, Opambata, the “Eko” inscription, colourful swirls and three ascending stars. The event’s official mascot was also unveiled and named Lasgidi.

LOC Chairman Egube described the unveiling as the perfect launchpad for the inaugural Games.

“We are happy that we are able to gather for this event and, when the story is told, we will be glad that we were part of it from the very first day,” he said.

NSC DG, Olopade explained why Lagos was chosen to host the maiden edition of the Games.

“This is very proactive, and this is what we are looking forward to. Lagos has consistently shown that it can lead from the front and bridge the gap that exists in our sports.

“It is not only about organising this event. Lagos has a Sports Commission that has elevated school sports and nurtured young talents to the highest level. It is only fitting that the next stage of growth begins here, with Lagos showcasing that we can do things better than many people expect.”

Fatodu, who presented the brand identity of the Games through the logo and mascot, praised Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for supporting the initiative.

“What we are seeing today is a manifestation of the seriousness, dedication and fulfilment of the promise made by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu that the National Intermediate Games will be a spectacular event that will go down in the history of sporting activities in Nigeria,” Fatodu said.

Ogunlende also described the unveiling as another significant milestone in preparations for the Games.

According to him, the competition will inspire young athletes, promote excellence and further strengthen Lagos’ position as Nigeria’s leading hub for sports development.
