Fasuba’s daughter breaks 49-year 100m record

Annabelle, the daughter of former Nigerian sprinter Olusoji Fasuba, has achieved another feat in the UK, breaking the City of Plymouth’s 48-year 100m record on her first outdoor outing in 2025 at their Spring Warm-up Meeting at Brickfields, Devonport, Plymouth, on Sunday, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.

Fasuba clocked a stunning time of 11.91s to smash the record which has stood since 1976 which also puts her in the UK’s overall female top 10 in the early rankings for this year and puts her 14th on the U-15 girls’ all-time list above the likes of current Great Britain stars Dina Asher-Smith and Amy Hunt.

The previous record was set by Jill Davies in 1976.

The 13-year-old also broke her own U-15 City of Plymouth record in the process.

According to Plymouth Sports Gazette, just 20 female athletes in British history have run under 12 seconds at the U-15 level.

Fasuba, who won the English 60m indoor title earlier this year, also tried her hand at the 300m on Sunday at Brickfields, where she clocked an impressive time of 40.88, which broke another City of Plymouth record.

Her father, a former African champion and record holder, was impressed by the win.

“What a day for 13-year-old Annabelle Fasuba,” the ex-Nigerian athlete posted on Facebook.

“She stormed to a blistering 11.91s in the 100m, breaking not one but two records in one race! She smashed the U-17 club record, which had stood untouched since 1976—

“To top off a phenomenal day, she ran in the 4x300m relay, helping her team bring home a brand new club record!

“What a talent. What a future,” he added.

Fasuba’s daughter began to gain prominence on the track last year after setting two new UK records in the U-15 Girls 100m and 200m in one week in May 2024.

Her father, Fasuba, won the African Championships title in 2004 and was also a member of the Nigerian team that won bronze in the 4 x 100 m relay at the Athens 2004 Olympic Games.
