Fans laud Joshua’s free spirit in Sagamu

By Daily Sports Nigeria on December 31, 2024

Boxing fans have taken to social media platform X to joke about former heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua’s lack of security during his Christmas visit to his hometown in Sagamu, Ogun State, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.

The British-Nigerian boxer was captured in viral videos moving freely and dancing to fuji music among locals without any visible security presence, sparking humorous reactions from fans who suggested the two-time world champion’s fighting prowess made bodyguards unnecessary.

“He is just a cool guy. He is really a bouncer himself,” Sebastine Ogbonnaya wrote on X.

Another user, BIG DUKE, warned potential troublemakers, posting, “Go near him. One blow (punch) will feel like they threw a bag of cement at your eye.”

Shaibu Sam questioned the need for security, writing, “If you don’t have enemies, why do you need security?!”

“Who would dare challenge a world champion on the street? No referee, no rules? Are you crazy?” NsiSong, with X username, @nsikool, added.

User Oyindey4u confidently stated, “Anybody that comes will collect, everywhere clear,” while Geoffrey Nwankpa warned, “Go near him and you’d find yourself in an ambulance.”

“It’s the people that need guarding, not him,” Ugbah Isioma concluded.

Joshua, who spent part of his childhood in Nigeria attending Mayflower School in Ikenne, has maintained strong ties with his roots despite his global success in boxing. The 35-year-old is reportedly set for a rematch with Daniel Dubois, with promoter Eddie Hearn revealing that Saudi Arabia’s Turki Alalshikh is ready to sanction the bout.

The former unified heavyweight champion held the WBA, IBF, WBO and IBO titles twice between 2016 and 2021, sharing the ring with boxing legends including Wladimir Klitschko, Dillian Whyte and Andy Ruiz before losing his belts to Oleksandr Usyk.
