Prince Vincent Okumagba, the National Chairman of the Nigeria Football Supporters Club (NFSC), has expressed optimism that the members of the club would depart the shores of the country for Rio, Brazil on Wednesday to cheer Coach Samson Siasia’s Dream Team VI to victory.
According to the NFSC boss, the hiccup that prevented the club from travelling before now has been resolved and as a result they are hopeful that their visas would be ready between Monday and Tuesday to enable members pick the next available flight to Rio, Brazil.
Okumagba stated this in a telephone chat with Dailysportsng.com on Sunday night. He explained that the problem that they had was that some members of the club who were to make the trip to Brazil submitted fake bank statement of account and since the club could not detect them, they were submitted to the Brazilian Embassy where the fake documents were detected.
He, however, expressed happiness that the matter has been sorted out with the Embassy as it would be wrong to deny genuine members visas just because of those who submitted fake documents.
“Hopefully, we will be leaving the shores of this country on Wednesday by God’s grace,” Okumagba said.
“The little problem which hindered our movement before now has been sorted out. The problem we had with Brazilian Embassy was that some members of the Club who are to make the trip to Brazil submitted fake bank statement of accounts to us which we in turn, submitted to the embassy only to be informed that some of them were fakes.
“Of course, there is no way we could have discovered this before going to the Embassy. So, when we submitted these documents, the Embassy through their own mechanism discovered that some of the documents were fake and as a result, denied the entire club visas.
“And you know, when you are dealing with people such things are bound to happen because some people are not honest, otherwise, why should somebody submit fake document for the purposes of travelling to go and cheer the Dream Team VI.
“But the good thing is that the matter has been sorted out. We expect to get the visas on Monday or Tuesday. So, hopefully we will be leaving for Rio on Wednesday,” Okumagba explained.
Okumagba explained how the logjam in the issuance of visas to the club was resolved.
“Talking about how the matter was resolved, it was a simple thing because I told the Embassy official that it will be wrong to deny member of the club visas because of the crime of others and they reasoned with me that it is not justice to do so.
“I want to assure Nigerians that there is no cause for alarm, we are going to Brazil to cheer the Dream Team VI to victory; already, the boys are doing the country proud despite all odds,” Okumagba assured.
Daily Sports recalls that the Coach Samson Siasia-tutored side who landed in Brazil just four hours before the kick of their first game against Japan, stunned the world by braving the odds to hand Japan their first defeat in the football event of the ongoing quadrennial sports fiesta taking place in the Southern American nation of Brazil.
The Nigerians boys have already booked their quarterfinal place with a game to spare. They defeated Sweden on Sunday to top their group and back home, millions of Nigerian football fans have been celebrating even as they are already dreaming of another Olympic Gold Medal, having won it in Atlanta Georgia, United States of America in 1994.
