Mason Mount is set for another extended spell on the sidelines, adding to his frustrations during a stop-start season at Manchester United.
The former Chelsea midfielder has struggled since joining Old Trafford in July last year, battling a loss of form and recurring injuries that have limited his contributions.
The England international has managed just 32 appearances for United, scoring a single goal and starting only nine Premier League matches.
United manager Ruben Amorim confirmed the 25-year-old would be out for “several weeks” after being forced off early in last week’s Manchester derby, which United won 2-1.
“I don’t know the exact date, but it’s going to be for a long time,” Amorim said. “That’s football, and we move forward.”
Amorim expressed his commitment to supporting Mount during his recovery, highlighting the player’s recent improvement in form.
“What I can do is help Mase by teaching him how to adapt to our game during his recovery. We’ll use this time for him to think about different aspects of the game,” Amorim said.
However, he noted the challenges posed by a demanding schedule, which limits opportunities for full-team training.
“We’re always travelling, playing matches, and training is limited. It’s hard to recreate the game environment for players returning from injury,” he added.
Meanwhile, Marcus Rashford is available for Sunday’s home match against Bournemouth after missing the squad for the derby and Thursday’s 4-3 League Cup quarter-final loss to Tottenham.
Amorim dismissed speculation of disciplinary issues involving Rashford, who recently stated he was “ready for a new challenge” when asked about his future at United.
Amorim, who replaced Erik ten Hag at Old Trafford last month, believes the team is making progress despite being 13th in the Premier League standings.
“I think we are improving near the opponent’s box,” he said.
“You can see we are creating threats, taking shots, and being more dynamic. Our team is pressing better, improving physically, and understanding the game more. These are positive signs.”
