Remo Stars bounced back from their last defeat to secure a 1-0 win over arch-rivals Bendel Insurance in one of the NPFL matchday 8 fixtures in Ikenne on Sunday to temporarily move top of the table with 18 points, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.
Dela Akorli grabbed the only goal of the game with just three minutes left in the first 45 minutes to secure maximum points for Daniel Ogunmodede’s side.
The Sky Blue Stars lost 3-1 to Plateau United on Thursday after a fine start to the season, but a win against Benin Arsenal saw them back in winning ways and returned to the summit of the standings.
Abia Warriors also bounced back from Wednesday’s 3-0 defeat to Nasarawa United to beat Plateau United 3-1 in one of the six games played on Sunday.
Adamu Abubakar gave the visitors the lead in the 40 minutes before two quick goals from Sunday. Megwo and Adejoh Ojonugwa in the first and fourth minutes of the additional time put the hosts in front before the end of the first half.
Paul Samson added the third goal in the 61st minute to seal the victory for the Warriors, who moved to ninth on the table with 11 points.
Elsewhere, Bayelsa United, El Kanemi Warriors, and Sunshine Stars all recorded 1-0 wins apiece against Heartland, Enyimba, and Nasarawa United, respectively.
