West Ham United are set to revive their interest in a transfer for Nigerian striker Terem Moffi in the summer window after the 2022/23 season, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.
The Irons only just missed out on the striker to Ligue 1 side OGC Nice in the January sales.
That is according to Calciomercato, which reports that West Ham are among a number of Premier League clubs still interested in the Nigeria international but the Hammers and Southampton are leading the chasing pack.
Moffi only headed to the Allianz Riviera from FC Lorient in the winter market.
The 23-year-old left on loan with an obligation for Les Aiglons to buy him at the end of this season but West Ham and Southampton will now fight for his services once the next window opens.
Nice signed Moffi after agreeing on a £26m package with Lorient for the seven-cap Nigeria forward. Les Merlus received £2m upfront for the loan aspect of the move. Les Aiglons will also owe a further £20m this summer plus £4m in add-ons.
Lorient will receive 15% on any fee that Nice earn through Moffi’s transfer in the future so West Ham or Southampton may face an increased asking price.
Moffi has scored four goals in his first eight appearances with Nice, along with two assists so far. He attracted interest in the summer window after scoring 12 goals in 18 games for Lorient.
West Ham were willing to pay Lorient £20m, plus £5m in add-ons, to beat Nice to Moffi’s transfer in January, per the Daily Mail. The Irons and Les Merlus held talks as David Moyes bid to beat AFC Bournemouth. Yet Les Aiglons ultimately won their tussle on deadline day.
