Mikel congratulates Modric on new Madrid contract

By Daily Sports Nigeria on July 19, 2024

Former Super Eagles and Chelsea midfielder, Mikel Obi, has congratulated Croatian legend Luka Modric after the midfielder signed a one-year contract extension with Real Madrid, The PUNCH reports.

The 38-year-old was out of contract at the end of June and the UEFA Champions League winners have decided to renew his contract following another good performance at the recently concluded Euro 2024 starting all three of Croatia’s matches.

Modric has been one of the best players for Madrid since he joined the club from English Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur in 2012 and his continuing presence will ensure manager Carlo Ancelotti has experience to count on as he prepares for his 13th season at the Bernabeu.

Following the confirmation of the contract extension, Mikel shared a picture of himself with the Los Blancos star to congratulate him on extending his contract.

“Congratulations Luka Modric on extending your contract with Real Madrid,” read the caption on the picture.

Modric, 38, has won 26 trophies, including six Champions Leagues and four domestic titles since joining Real Madrid from Tottenham in 2012.

The 2018 Ballon d’Or winner has featured in 534 matches for Los Blancos, scoring 39 goals
