Nigerian trio Victor Osimhen, Sadiq Umar and Zaidu Sanusi will know their UEFA Champions League round of 16 foes on Monday (today), PUNCH Sports Extra reports.
The Champions League round of 16 draws will be held on Monday in Nyon at the house of European Football after the 16 teams were finalised last week.
Group winners will be drawn against group runners-up and at this stage teams from the same countries cannot face each other, nor can teams who played each other in the group stage of this season’s competition.
Napoli finished second in Group C with 10 points, eight points behind Real Madrid, who had 100 percent record in the group stage.
Since no Serie A team finished top of their groups, Osimhen and his teammates will get a date with one of the teams that finished top of their groups with the exception of Madrid, who they already faced in the group stage.
It means Osimhen will likely face Arsenal, Atlético de Madrid, Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund, Manchester City or Real Sociedad.
Sociedad got the draw they needed against last season’s finalists Inter Milan and won Group D. They will be able to play the second leg of a round of 16 tie at home, inside Reale Arena.
All four Spanish clubs topped their respective groups and since they don’t get to face each other at the stage, Umar will face any of the teams from the unseeded pot.
The unseeded pot has Copenhagen, Inter Milan, Lazio, Leipzig, Napoli, Paris Saint Germaine, Porto and PSV Eindhoven.
Zaidu helped Porto finish second in Group H with 12 – the same points as group winners Barcelona.
The Nigerian could face Real Madrid, Arsenal, Atlético de Madrid, Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund, Manchester City or Real Sociedad in the round of 16.
