Lagos top schools for fourth Dolphin Swimming League

By Daily Sports Nigeria on October 28, 2022

Top schools in Lagos State are expected to compete in the fourth yearly Dolphin Swimming League, which begins tomorrow at Grange School, Ikeja.

Created by Dynaspro Promotions Limited, in conjunction with Advanta Interactive Limited, the yearly inter-school event is endorsed by the Nigeria Swimming Federation, Lagos State Sports Commission (LSSC) and Lagos State Swimming Association, with the aim of growing swimming in the country from the grassroots to the international stage.

According to the coordinator of the league, Oluseyi Oyebode, the first-tier international primary and secondary schools tournament will unearth talented young swimmers that will compete on the international stage for the country, as well as improve the technical know-how of coaches across the country.

Speaking with The Guardian, he said: “We are happy that the Nigeria School Sport Federation (NSSF) has not only certified this tournament, but they will also be part of this edition.

“We are hopeful that their involvement will help the participants to get exposure to international tournaments. Our aim remains to produce world-class athletes that will represent Nigeria at the 2028 Olympics and we are optimistic that this will happen.”

CEO, Advanta Interactive, Efe Ojigbede, said this year’s tournament promises to be exciting for the participants, adding that there are plans to make the atmosphere fun-filled for the participants.

The maiden edition of the league had four schools, including a Lagos State team (boys and girls), while the number of participants grew in the second season to seven. With several initiatives introduced, more schools identified with the tournament with 10 schools competing at the third edition in 2019.

Among the schools already confirmed for the tournament include Greensprings School, Grange School, Lagos Preparatory and Secondary School, Children International School, Riverbank School, St. Saviour’s School, and others.

Following the COVID-19 pandemic, the league was suspended from the 2020 edition and has returned in a colourful fashion as more schools across Lagos have signified their interest to be a part of this year’s edition.
