Fans congratulate Falcons for Team of the Year award

By Daily Sports Nigeria on December 12, 2023

Nigerian fans have taken to social media to praise the Super Falcons after they were named the Women’s Team of the Year at the CAF 2023 Awards off the back of an impressive showing at the Women’s World Cup on Monday, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.

Nigeria’s brave ladies bowed out of the competition in the round of 16 after losing to England on penalties after normal and extra time ended barren.

The Super Falcons ended their Mundial campaign without losing any match in regulation time and they were the only undefeated African national. They did not lose a match in their three group B games as they drew Olympic champions Canada, shock co-hosts Australia, and settled for a point against the Republic of Ireland.

After they were announced winners, Nigerians took to social media platform X to praise the Falcons.

Akpati Nshiegbe is of the opinion that the Falcons were clear winners and unmatched by other African teams.

“There is actually no match. Your World Cup display was what no African country can match easily,” Nshiegbe wrote.

Merrick Olu believed the honour was well deserved following their achievements in the time under review.

“Weldone girls. This is well deserved,” Olu wrote.

Another Nigerian Mark Umah echoed his sentiments writing, “Well deserved, unbeaten at the world cup.”

Serene Smart congratulated the players, “Congratulations to our great women.”

More fans congratulated the Falcons with @Offixial_Savior writing, “Congratulations, the ladies making us proud.”

Agatha Atagher also wrote, “Congratulations, girls. Always rooting for you all.”

Another fan, Babawale Aduroja stated, “Congratulations Super Falcons of Nigeria are the Team of the Year.”

Another fan with the username, @odyniyi was disappointed that NFF president Musa Gusau picked up the award for the Falcons instead of allowing one of the players present.

“But why did the chairman rob the ladies the privilege to receive their hard earn award. Onome (Ebi), (Chiamaka) Nnadozie, (Asisat) Oshoala, (Deborah) Abiodun are present for GOD sake. Despite all the shege NFF put them through.”
