No person was ever honored for what he received. Honor has been the reward for what he gave.
Not given to elaborate moves on the pitch, nor was he stylish or charismatic, he just kept it simple and did his job. And that job was to make sure that his opponent never got the better of him. He was the sort of player who did not want to make any mistakes on the field of play, to lose the ball or kill a transition, so he kept it simple and passed the ball as soon as he got it. For him, as soon as he does that, his job done, no silly mistakes.
A quiet man, highly disciplined, never drank, smoked or got involved in the sort of shenanigans most players got entangled with as far as I can remember. He was the kind of player that played for the team, gave his all for the team without complaining. Even on occasions when he was not entirely fit to play, he offered to play. He was also a leader and an example to younger players both on the pitch and off the pitch, a quiet and strong character that seldom loses his cool. When the chips were down, you looked him in the face and you immediately knew you can count on him. Everything he did was unselfishly for the benefit of the team.
Rangers became the club it was without a shadow of a doubt because many players like him played for the club. It is amazing how time has flown, how so many of us has dispersed to all corners of the earth. But I will always remember with fondness, the value of the input of so many people that made us individually great, and awesome collectively as a group of players.
That was the man Totty Okoro Totty was. And that is the man most of us will always remember. He was among the second generation of Rangers International football club players who did not let the first generation down, and that is very important to remember.
Rangers International Football club Enugu became great because of little chipping ins from people like him over the years, some recognised, some never fully in the true sense of the word really acknowledged by the public. But we players and the football fraternity of a particular generation in our heart of hearts know the magnitude of what each and every one of us did. A player who during his whole football career did not break a single Camp rule. And I can count on my fingers pglayers of his generation who achieved that feat.
It doesn't take a hero to order men into battle. It takes a hero to be one of those men who goes into battle.
May his Soul rest in peace
