The Main Bowl of the National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos, will come alive today, Friday, July 22, 2016, with Lagos SWAN Veterans taking on the Lagos State Sports Commission (LSSC) as part of activities marking the opening ceremony of the 2016 Winners Golden Bet/Lagos SWAN Week.
The match, which is expected to kick off by 3pm, promises to be explosive with the Lagos State Sports Commission team to be led by last year’s Winners Golden Bet/Lagos SWAN Cup Most Valuable Player and current Chairman of LSSC, Deji Tinubu. The team will also parade stars like Ayo Agbesanwa, Director General LSSC, Anthony Adeboye (Senior Special Assistant to the Lagos State Governor on Sports), and Bolaji Yusuf (Senior Special Assistant to the Lagos State Governor on facilities), amongst others.
For the SWAN Veterans, retired Nigeria Television Authority’s living legend, Paul Ogazi, will be on parade alongside Deji Balogun (General Manager, Lagos Television), Tony Nezianya (Managing Editor/ Head of Sports Desk NAN), Fred Edoreh (incumbent Chairman, Lagos SWAN), Wale Joseph (Deputy National Secretary, SWAN), in addition to others who have confirmed their participation.
According to Debo Oshundun, Chairman of the Lagos SWAN Sports Committee, “The competition is getting bigger and better with the support of our members, headline sponsor, Winners Golden Bet, and partners, FC IfeanyiUbah and Zenith Sports.
“We enjoin all members to take advantage of this unique opportunity to show their support to the association by coming out cheer all participating teams.”
In what seems to be an icing on an already sweet cake, newly elected National President of SWAN, Mr. Honor Sirawoo, has confirmed his attendance in what will be his first official visit to the state after his election.
In a related development, Oshundun appealed to all participating teams to ensure that they pay the mandatory N 2,000 participation fee on or before Monday.
“We need to emphasise that the committee this year will be strict in its application of rules and regulations as regards participation in the Winners Golden Bet/Lagos SWAN week. Before any team will be eligible to participate, they must pay the participation form of N 2,000.
“Failure to do so will amount to automatic disqualification,” he said.
