At the inaugural meeting of the Technical Committee of Lagos State FootballAssociation held on Thursday, 17, August 2023 at the LSFA Secretariat todeliberate on important issues concerning football in the state, resolved asfollows:
(1) The Chairman Technical Committee, Alhaji Liameed Olawale Gafar thankedthe board of Lagos State Football Association, LSFA led by Alhaji Fouad Oki for itscommitment to the growth and development as well as repositioning the faceof football in the state.
(2) The committee commended the LSFA board members for its football policyand the bold initiative to resuscitate football competitions such as Oba's Cup,Lagos Street Soccer, IBILE Games, LAFA Super League, Principal Cup, and LagosJunior League.
(3) Having created various standing committees for the above footballtournaments, the technical committee applauded the Oki led-board andresolved that one or two technical committee members should be part of thevarious standing committees to act as feedback mechanisms to the technicalcommittees.
(4) As part of their unalloyed support to the various standing committees, theTechnical Committee further advised that they hit the ground running with theirvarious competitions.
(5) Having extensively discussed the challenges pertaining to the Lagos FA Cup inthe previous editions by the past administration, the committee has resolved tobegin early preparation and quickly appointed Mr. Sulaiman Rasheed and CoachBenson Edema to identify some good locations that would be used for theforthcoming FA Cup.
2 | P a g e(6) The Committee also agreed to make the Lagos FA Cup more inclusive bytaking the competition into the hinterland instead of concentrating on someparticular locations as has been the case in time past. It is also resolved thatvenue proximity to teams should be a major factor during the FA Cup,considering the economic situation of the country at the moment.
(7) On the Principal Cup, the committee proposesto the Lagos FA board to dividePrincipal Cup into two, namely: Junior and Senior Principal Cup. It is observedthat schools these days have junior and secondary schools, and stemming frompopular demand, the technical committee, therefore, recommends that thecompetition be played separately.
(8) After a lot of deliberations, the committee resolved to revive the StateLeague. It was unanimously agreed by the members that the best two teamsfrom each of the five divisions would qualify for the State League and the twotop teams would represent the state at the national playoffs.
(9) In order to prepare the Lagos-based NPFL, NNL, and NLO teams for the2023/24 season, the committee concludes to organize a pre-season tournamentfrom September 20 through 27, 2023 to keep the teams fit, ahead of the newseason. The committee has proposed to use Onikan Stadium for the week-longevent.
(10) During the deliberations, the Chairman of the Technical Committee, AlhajiLiameed Olawale Gafar expressed optimism that more teams from Lagos wouldbe promoted to the NLO, NNL, and NPFL from next season owing to the strongsupport from the Oki-led LSFA Board.
(11) The committee agreed that with the various football competitions lined upby this administration, there is a need for additional sports facilities andrenovation of existing ones to accommodate the busy football calendar of theLSFA. Upon further deliberations, the committee resolved that the LSFA Boardshould appeal to the Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu to see that the ongoingrenovations taking place in Agege Stadium, Ifako-Ijaiye Sports Center, and othersports centers be expedited.
3 | P a g e(12) In order to present formidable teams in the various categories that wouldrepresent the state at future national football competitions, the technicalcommittee proposed four coaches in these age categories: U-10, 13, 15, 17, and20 for both males and females. The committee suggests that 40 coaches shouldbe deployed in all the categories.
(13) That the LSFA Board should strongly consider the possibility of deployingone or two Coaches to each of the 5 Divisions in the State and saddle them withthe task of identifying budding talents as it used to be many years ago.
(14) Finally, the technical director of the Technical Committee, Tajudeen Disualso expressed delight with the caliber of members in the committee andreminded the members of their primary assignments. While commending themembers for their commitment to the committee, he remains upbeat that theOki-led board would take football to the next level and therefore urged footballstakeholders in the state to exercise patience with the new administration.
