Administrators of the 20 clubs in the Nigeria Professional Football League say they are looking forward to the kickoff of the 2023/24 season, dismissing insinuations that they were responsible for the postponement of the start of the new season.
General Secretary of the club owners, Godwin Enakhena, explained that the shift in kick-off date from August 26 to September 9 was only communicated to the association by the NPFL board.
The NPFL board led by Gbenga Elegbeleye, last week announced the two-week postponement, stating the need to install, test and train personnel that would operate the newly acquired AI cameras, which would be used to stream the league on a digital platform next season.
As a result, the board also postponed the draws for the new season from Thursday, August 24 (today) to Tuesday, August 29.
