*As NPFL Inugurates Body
Former Super Eagles dynamo, Daniel "The Bull" Amokachi has been appointed as the chairman Technical Committee for the NPFL team of the Month in a Media interactive session held in Lagos yesterday.
In keeping with it's plans of introducing series of innovative ideas that will move the country's league forward, the Nigeria Premier League ( NPL) Thursday, August, 17, 2023, inaugurated a technical committee saddled with the responsibility of selecting the best players in the league that will form part of proposed end of the season team.
The selected players will have the opportunity to travel to Spain for two weeks and engage in friendly games with a LaLiga side that is now in partnership with the NPL while the best coach selected will also travel with the team.
Members of the nine man committee drawn from coaches, players and the media includes; Daniel Amokachi as the chairman, Godwin Uwa, Deji Omotoyinbo, Harrison Jalla and Austin Eguavoen. Others are, Segun Agbede, Mitchel Obi and Davidson Adejuwon.
Speaking while inaugurating the committee at the board room of the strategic partners of the NPL; GTI Assets Management and Trust Limited, Lagos, the Chairman of Nigeria Premier League, Gbenga Elegbeleye explained that the idea of having a technical committee for team of the month selection may not be entirely new but that the board is putting the added flavour and benefits of going to have an end of season team and an All- Star squad that will spend two weeks in Spain playing friendly games with top LaLiga sides.
" Right now, we have secured an agreement with a top LaLiga club to host our NPFL selected team and arrange for them to play against some other top teams in Spain.
"This no doubt will be an enriching experience for the players as they will have the opportunity to train and play against some of the very best teams in LaLiga. It also has the added edge of going to form the nucleus of a future CHAN Eagles team.
He reminded those who have been selected as members of the committee to consider it as a call to service and contributing their quota towards the growth of the country's domestic football.
In his welcome address, Managing Director/ Chief Executive Officer of GTI , Abubakar Lawal expressed happiness that the relationship between his company and the NPL is moving smoothly even as he charged the board members not to relent in their efforts at moving the league forward.
Chairman of the committee, Daniel Amokachi promised that his members will do a thorough job and will not allow sentiment to over ride their judgement.
Meanwhile, Basil Kabbani, the Chairman of Propel Sports Africa, has applauded the Group Managing Director of GTI Group and the NPFL for their efforts at moving the domestic league forward even as he announced that additional three AI cameras were delivered ahead of the 2023/2024 football season.
