Score goals, Gusau charges Falcons

By Daily Sports Nigeria on July 26, 2023

President of the Nigeria Football Federation, Ibrahim Gusau, has rallied the Super Falcons to carry the mantle of Africa’s pride and “keep Africa’s hope alive” as they gear up to face co-hosts Australia in their crucial second match of the FIFA Women’s World Cup finals on Thursday.

Having witnessed the conclusion of the first round of matches on Tuesday, Nigeria stands as the only African flag-bearer yet to endure defeat.

With a legacy of nine-time champions of Africa and a consistent participant in every edition of the FIFA Women’s World Cup, Nigeria holds the responsibility of being the true giant and beacon of hope for the African continent in Australia.

While the hopes of Morocco, Zambia, and South Africa lie in their potential to overturn their previous results, the focus now turns to the Super Falcons to carry the torch and keep Africa’s song resounding.

Reflecting on the team’s impressive display against Canada, Gusau urges the girls to cast aside their past achievements and concentrate on securing a triumphant victory against Australia.

“The Australians may pose a formidable challenge, but with unyielding determination and an unwavering commitment to the ball, we can prevail,” he said.

In the other African fixtures, Zambia conceded to a 0-5 defeat to Japan, South Africa narrowly lost 1-2 to Sweden, and Morocco succumbed to a 0-6 rout against Germany.

Gusau recognizes the significance of this upcoming match against the co-hots, and urges the Super Falcons to unleash their full potential on the field, with an emphasis on converting opportunities into goals.

“I am charging the girls to go all out. This is a match in which we need to score goals,” the NFF boss said.

As the battle intensifies on the grand stage, the eyes of the continent are fixated on the Super Falcons, as they carry the aspirations and dreams of millions, uniting under the banner of African pride, skill, and passion.
